The aim of this project is to create an online directory of Oriental Orthodox – Coptic, Syriac, Armenian, Ethiopian, Eritrean, and Indian (Malankara) Orthodox – churches across the global diaspora, and provide a simple, map-based interface to help users find and connect with nearby Orthodox churches in their area.

You can search for a specific location, such as a town or city, to find nearby Orthodox churches. (Note: searching for larger regions like states or provinces might not work properly). Alternatively, use the “Locate Me” button within the search bar to move the map to a radius based on your current position. The app then automatically displays all Orthodox churches near the respective location. Each result includes the parish name, a Google Maps address, and, where available, contact or community details to help you connect.

Currently, the database covers all diasporic countries where one or more Orthodox churches are known and listed. It does not cover many home countries — especially Egypt, Armenia, Ethiopia, and Eritrea — for the same reason, and also because listing the churches in these countries is an exceedingly challenging task. The database does list parishes in Syria given the relatively lesser number of churches in the country (helping the collation to be quick), as well as those in India excepting the state of Kerala (which alone accounts for nearly two thousand churches and chapels).

If the basemap appears frozen after panning or zooming, it may be because the tiles did not load properly. Try zooming in and out slightly, and if that does not help, please refresh the page and try again. If the map container does not load at all, your browser may not support WebGL (which is required for this web application to function) or has it disabled. It is recommended to use a browser that supports modern web standards.
